UV hands Afton-Harpursville first loss of season
EDMESTON – Exactly one week ago, Afton-Harpursville (3-1) and Unadilla Valley (2-3) squared off at Belden Hills with the Crimson Knights taking the victory. Their match on Thursday, August 31 was a different story as the ties changed hands in favor of the Storm (2-3).
UV snagged the win over the formally undefeated Crimson Knights by a convincing 18 strokes at Red Pines in Edmeston.
Shooting six over on the par 36, nine-hole course was UV’s Andrew Jackson (42), who was the top medalist for the contest. Jackson, a senior, has not recorded a score outside the 40’s yet this season, making him a very powerful candidate to make a strong run during the play-off season.
Again, Afton-Harpursville’s top golfer for the match was Logan Culver with his final score read 45 for the morning. Culver has also been a tough competitor on the season for the Crimson Knights, scoring in the 40’s for a majority of his matches.
Afton-Harpursville’s Colin LaDue and Mike Bennett both finished with a 53, helping Culver round out the top three for the visiting team.
Also contributing to the victory for the Storm was Brandon Kneale with a 48. Teammate Gavin Church followed close behind, shooting a 49. Ending the scorecard for UV was Sam Loeffler posting 56 and Drew Emrich shot a 56.
UV will look to go .500 tomorrow as they travel to Greene for a 9 a.m. match. Afton-Harpursville will head to Sidney as the attempt to bounce back from the loss Thursday. The event is scheduled to start 10 a.m.
