Week two of Chenango County football

Greene defeats Groton 14-0

GREENE – The Trojan football team has jumped back to their winning ways in week two of the regular season, defeating Groton on the road at 14-0.

“We have had some very physical teams to start the season. Watkins Glen is very large and Groton won the division last year. They’re (Groton’s) very good so it was a real nice win for us,” said Greene head coach Dave Gorton.

After suffering an unfortunate loss on the road to Watkins Glen at 32-22 – the mighty Trojans turned to their defense to help secure a win in week two.

“We had five takeaways, we played very well defensively. We had some untimely penalties including a penalty that wiped out a touchdown 88-yard interception return,” said coach Gorton. “We turned ball over on downs on the two-yard line in the first quarter. We had opportunities to put some more points on the board. Our defense a couple times bent, but didn’t break.”

Five takeaways allowed for mistakes like a missed chance on an interception return or a missed chance at points from the two-yard line to give the Trojans less of a sting when it was all said and done.

Scoring first in the game was Justin Carmen. Carmen gave Greene the first and only lead change when he caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Coy Austin. Austin connected with Carmen for the two-point conversion as well.
