Owen's scores three touchdowns despite the Marauders loss
CANASTOTA – Looking to bounce back from a season opening loss to Dolgeville, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders went on the road to face the Red Raiders of Canastota on Friday, September 8.
In the opening quarter, Canastota would tack on the only points scoring one touchdown from two yards out by Red Raider quarterback Ben Marshall. That would not be Marshall's only touchdown of the night.
The Marauders would not go down easy. S-E quarterback Gabe Irwin would drop back looking down field for an open receiver. He would connect with his receiver Lincoln Owen that would lead to a 55 yard touchdown, tying the score 7-7.
The tie wouldn't last long though. Canastota would turn around and put two unanswered touchdowns. The first was a run by Red Raider Nick Weber, again punching it in from two yards out. Marshall would post his second score of the contest after taking advantage of a hole in the Marauder defense., scoring from 41 yards out, making the score 21-7 at the half.
Canastota would continue the momentum from the first half as they again grabbed another touchdown by Marshall, who played the instant replay button as he ran another 41 yards to carry himself to three scores on the evening.
S-E would not go down without a fight as Owen would tack on his second touchdown of the evening from 11 yards, cutting the lead to 28-13.
Battling back and forth on touchdowns, Marshall would post his fourth and final touchdown of the contest, again for 41 yards to the end-zone. Canastota's scoring would end there at 34 points for the contest.
The Marauders would not go down without fight. S-E's Owen answered Marshall's touchdown with one of his own from 44 yards away. S-E would attempt to add a 2-point conversion with a run but it would be stopped.
Owen would finish the day with 162 yards on the ground on 13 carries and 2 catches for 62 yards with a total of three touchdowns. Irwin went 3-for-8 with 86 yards with one passing score and one interception for the evening. He also rushed for 36 yards on ten attempts. Vinny Albertina would carry the ball 11 times for 42 yards to add to the 288 yards on the ground for the Marauders. S-E would end the evening with a total of 374 yards.
The Marauders will look to record their first win on the season as they will be in action again Saturday afternoon, September 16 on the road in Adirondack. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
