Brookfield tops Vikings 4-0

BROOKFIELD – When the ball was put into play, both Brookfield and Otselic Valley stopped play and turned to the Vikings goal as both teams and fans stood as placed their right hand over their hearts, paying tribute to the late goalkeeper of OV, Carter Rood. Rood passed away unexpectedly in the early hours Monday, September 11.
Otselic Valley had a game scheduled Monday against Madison but it would be cancelled to allow Rood's teammates to mourn and celebrate their goalie and brother on the field.
Being the first contest since the loss of Rood, the Vikings would have a “tough game for them mentally, emotionally, and physically,” said head coach Jake Preston
Otselic Valley started the game off with 10 players on the field; the missing position being in front of the net to honor their teammate and family member Rood.
The OV boys came out flat, which is to be expected after experiencing the loss of a teammate but the team knew playing the game is what Carter would want.
Brookfield's offense fired on all cylinders as they claimed the win over the visiting Vikings, 4-0. Outstanding play for Brookfield came on the backs of Colin Bugbee and Tyrell Owen. Bugbee and Owen each recorded a goal and an assist on the evening. The two other Brookfield goals were scored by Carter Reilly and Cody VanNort.
The Vikings will return to play at home on Friday as they face Cincinnatus at 6:30 p.m.
