Norwich boys and girls XC place second at MAC Duals

NEW BERLIN- On Tuesday September 12, three Chenango County Cross-Country teams took to the course to establish distance-running supremacy.
For the Norwich boy’s team, the NHS harriers finished second place out of the three complete teams with a total of 47 points. Delhi would claim the victory with a final score of 29 points. Noah Bufalini was the top place finisher for the Tornado with a fourth place finish in a time of 15:32 over the 4000 kilometer course. O’rion Slater finished seventh with a time of 15:48 and Stanton Baker was one spot behind Slater for eighth place with a time of 15:53. John Matlack-Grey was the fourth Purple Tornado to cross the line with an 11th place finish in a time of 16:27. Jacob Russell rounded out the scoring for the Tornado, placing 17th with a time of 17:39.
Unadilla Valley’s runner Josh Nogaret placed fifth with a time of 15:43. Andy Grace was the second and final Storm runner to cross the finish line, placing 18th in a time of 17:59.
Notably, Harpursville-Afton’s distance duo of Matt Johnson and Zach Swislocky both competed in the same race. Johnson was the highest placing Chenango County male athlete in the race finishing second with a time of 14:26. Swislocky finished 19th with a time of 18:23.
On the girl’s side, Norwich placed second out of the two complete teams at the meet with a score of 89. Delhi’s girls team finished first with a point total of 19. The Tornado’s first distance-runner to cross the tape was Nicole Jeffrey. Jeffrey finished the race in third place with a time of 17:24. Adrienne Vedder finished in 13th place with a time of 21:42 to claim the number two spot in scoring for the Purple Tornado. Allison Mikalunas placed placed 22nd with a time of 23:58. Leslie Galeano finished 25th for the Tornado with a time of 27:23, and Payten Seiler was one spot back in 26th with a time of 32:27.
For the Unadilla Valley Storm, Sadie Dibbell finished sixth with a time of 18:18. Teammate Isabel Mendoza placed 11th with a final time of 20:26.
For the Harpursville-Afton distance team, Mia Ambrocio placed 10th with a time of 20:09. McKayla Payne placed 12th with a time of 21:04. Logan Ives was the final H/A runner to cross the tape with a time of 22:16, placing 17th.
The Norwich Purple Tornado XC team is back in action on Saturday September 16 when they attend the McDaniel Baxter Invite at Chenango Valley State Park with the first gun set to go off at 9:00.
Unadilla Valley is back in action on Saturday September 16 when they compete at the New Hartford Invitational, with the first race set for 9:00.
