Trojans march to 7-0 while winning the 9th annual GLM Memorial Soccer tournament
WATKINS GLEN – The young but somehow extremely mighty Trojans boys soccer team of Greene have now climbed their way to a tournament championship and an unblemished record – after defeating Dryden at 4-2 in the finals.
Greene advanced to the finals of the GLM Memorial Soccer tournament on Saturday, September 16, after downing the host, Watkins Glen, at 7-0. On the other side, it was Dryden who knocked off Odessa-Montour by a tight score of 3-2.
The Trojans dropped Watkins Glen at 7-0, however, only could claim the 3-0 lead at the half. Hitting the hat trick in the win for Greene was Bradley Taft and Mikey Repp. Bobby Mills smacked in the final goal of the early game win – with Nick Shoemaker and River McCumiskey each adding one assist.
With the goalkeepers on either squad having similiar games – Greene's Kevin Gyurik having five saves and Watkin Glen's Garrett Bower laying claim to six.
It was the shots and corners where the offset of skill came. The Trojans had 18 shots on goal and one corner, while Watkin's could only muster six shots and six corners in the shutout loss.

Seeing a much more solid contest in the finals – Greene managed to fight through the Dryden defense for an evening with 10 shots on goal for a 4-2 win.
"Greene opened the scoring off a through ball pass from Alec Frair to Spencer Klumpp with 24:23 on the clock in the first half. Dryden equalized the goal by a shot driven outside the 18 by Trey Tyler. Greene went ahead by one goal by Mikey Repp to put the game at 2-1 at half," said Greene head coach Rick Tallman. "One minute and five seconds into the second half McCumiskey netted a free kick for Greene to push the lead to 3-1. Dryden responded with a goal from Ferretti off a Dryden free kick. Bradley Taft sealed the win for Greene with 7:49 seconds left on the clock off a Whitaker assist."
All hands were on deck for the Greene tournament win, as four players scored one goal a piece with two players chipping in for assists.
Scoring for the Trojans in their winning efforts this past weekend was Taft, Klumpp, Repp, and McCumiskey, with Alec Frair and Brandon Whitaker each having an assist.
Kevin Gyurik played in goal once again, having three saves – mirroring Dryden's Alex Ortiz who had three saves as well.
Once again, the difference was Greene's prolific offense, who sent 10 shots toward the goal with three corners, while Dryden managed just three shots and one corner.
Greene boys soccer (7-0 overall), now will look to extend their winning streak to eight when they play home against Delhi on Tuesday, September 19, at 5 p.m.
