A quick start for UV football is now dashed by back-to-back losses
NEW BERLIN – With their first home game of the 2017 regular season in the books, so too comes the first home loss for Unadilla Valley's football team who dropped a 49-12 divisional game this past Friday.
The powerful Unatego Spartans scored double digit points against the home squad this past Friday, September 15. Unatego ripped off two quick scores in the one-sided game, grabbing an early 13-0 lead.
And who was it who put Unatego up, and up for good essentially, it was Unatego's Dawson Wilsey. Wilsey first flew for a 67 yard run, all followed by a powerful 49 yard run – Austin Stockert added a point after kick after the first touchdown. Wilsey finished with eight rushes for two touchdowns and 127 yards on the ground.
UV's Payton Stirone dashed his way to a 37 yard run, a play that secured UV avoided the shutout – scoring their first touchdown in the second quarter and taking the game to 21-6 at that time.
Remarkably, there were eight rushing touchdowns – with Stirone and Wilsey accounting for half of that mark. However, besting Wilsey, Stirone accounted for essentially all of UV's offense, running his way to 219 yards off of 28 carries.
Despite the statistically pleasing game for Stirone – a game where Stirone averaged 7.8 yards per carry – UV failed to find the endzone again until the final quarter.
At that time, Unatego had marched to a 43-6 lead – Stirone added his second touchdown on the night for the 43-12 game. Unatego added one final touchdown for their side, downing UV at 49-12 for the final Class D matchup this past Friday.
The Spartans' Cooper Thayer managed a three carry game for 67 rushing yards, while Unatego's Caden Clow added his 11 carries into the mix for 102 rushing yards.
Next up for Unadilla Valley football (1-2 overall), the Storm will look to regroup this coming week before they host Deposit-Hancock in another divisional game. UV will host Deposit-Hancock this coming Friday, September 22, at 7 p.m.
