NORWICH – After the unsealing of 63 absentee ballots and one affidavit Tuesday morning, Mike Genute has officially won the Norwich City Court Judge Republican primary election, beating opponent Steve Natoli by a final vote count of 309 to 300.

“I am humbled with the results of the Republican primary for team Genute for judge,” said Genute. “I am thankful for everyone who assisted, supported, and encouraged my campaign.”

He continued, “I am very appreciative of everyone who not only heard, but listened to our message of the importance of the City Court Judge having a strong criminal law background.”

In the wake of the defeat, Natoli said, “No one can dispute that the existing political climate in our country has turned a great number of people away from the electoral process. But as the results from the Republican primary clearly demonstrate, every vote counts and even one vote can make all the difference.

“I sincerely appreciate each and every member of our community who got out to vote and encourage all members of our community to participate in the election in November.”

While Genute is the Republican candidate, Natoli will move forward with his campaign on the Conservative and Independent lines for the general election.

“With the support and encouragement of my family, friends and neighbors, I remain committed to providing a candidate for our community with significant City Court experience,” said Natoli.

“I also remain committed to giving back to the community that has contributed so greatly to not only my life, but the lives of all of my family members.”

The general election will take place on November 7, when Democrat candidate Maureen Byrne will enter the mix.

In closing, Genute said, “While it is clear that my team excelled at informing the voters of my qualifications for the position, we all realize that there is a lot of work still to be done before the general election on November 7.”
