S-E Marauders attempt the comeback but fall one goal short
ADIRONDACK – The Marauders of Sherburne-Earlville have faced some adversity in the win column as of late, dropping their second league loss in as many days.
“The Marauders traveled to take on the Adirondack Wildcats in a Center State Conference Division I League game. The Marauders started strong with two break away opportunities that the Wildcats goalkeeper, Mitchell Martin, made saves on,” said Sherburne-Earlville head coach Mike Rodriguez. “Adirondack quickly took control as Andy Scouten and Noah Morales scored in the next seven minutes, giving the Wildcats a quick 2-0 lead.”
Up 2-0 at the halftime break – S-E used some quick feet and reaction time to capitalize on what could have been another missed opportunity.
“Owen Rodriguez made it interesting in the closing minute as he converted a rebounded Marauder shot on goal for his second goal of the season,” said coach Rodriguez. “The Wildcats held firm handing the Marauders their second league defeat in as many games.”
The Marauders recorded five shots on goal with no corner kicks – Rodriguez was S-E’s lone strike on the night.
Adirondack kept S-E’s keepers busy –six saves for Thad Karaman in the first half and seven saves for Conor Ryan in the second half – as the Wildcat offense had 16 shots on goal with five corner kicks. In the win, Adirondack saw Andy Scouten and Noah Morales each take one goal in the 2-1 win on Wednesday, September 20.
Next up for Sherburne-Earlville boys soccer, they will be hosting Holland-Patent on Friday, September 22, at 4:30 p.m.
