GENEVA – Jon Heggie maintained his unblemished record last Sunday, September 17, as he triumphed over Carlos Rojas, of Utica.
Heggie fought Rojas as part of the main event at a boxing event in Geneva. His father and coach, Peter Heggie, said, “Jon was the aggressor the whole fight. Carlos connected on a few punches, though (he was) out punched (in) most of the exchanges.”
After this latest win, Heggie’s unbeaten record now stands at a staggering 17-0.
In the past month alone, he has collected three key victories.
Back on August 19, Heggie won a bout by unanimous decision against 21-year-old Kenny Rodriguez, of Utica, at Coleman’s Irish bar.
He followed that up by winning two fights at the New York State Fair at the beginning of this month.
In his second bout at the fair, Heggie faced one of his toughest challenges to date in 24-year-old Favi Nieves from fight factory boxing club, based out of Rochester.
Heggie managed to knock Nieves out in the first minute of the second round to clinch an amazing victory. Peter Heggie described his son’s intense battle with Nieves, saying, “The first round was a slug fest. The referee administered two standing eight counts to Nieves. The kid was extremely strong and aggressive. (He) was one of Jonathan’s toughest fights for sure.”
To top it all off, Heggie was also awarded the New York State Fair most outstanding fighter award.
Heggie will look to continue to build on what’s been nothing short of an astonishing month. His next fight is scheduled to take place in Syracuse on Saturday, September 30.
