NHS student honored as Commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Program
NORWICH – Norwich High School student Graham Rudy has been named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) after his excellent performance on the Preliminary SATs.
Son of Jeff and Tami Rudy, Graham is one of 34,000 students nationwide to receive this honor, placing among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the PSATs.
NHS Principal Kisten Giglio said this is the first time a Norwich student has received this honor since 2011.
"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," said a spokesperson for the NMSP.
"These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of education excellence in our nation."
Rudy was presented a certificate acknowledging his accomplishment on Monday during a small ceremony at NHS. Norwich City School District Superintendent Gerard O'Sullivan, NHS Principal Kisten Giglio, Tami Rudy, and Graham Rudy were present.
"We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success," said the spokesperson in closing.
