Tornado volleyball win over Sabers adds another to their 2017 resume

NORWICH – The Norwich varsity volleyball team hosted the Sabers of Susquehanna Valley for a Section IV matchup where the Tornado stole the show for their home crowd with a 3-0 win.
“Extremely hot evening to play volleyball,” said Norwich head coach Shelly Alger. “Another game where everyone had a chance to play.”
Norwich snagged the nice home 3-0 victory on Tuesday, September 26, starting with a 25-12 dominating opening set.
Following the blowout in the first set, the Sabers were faced with some rotating pieces on the Tornado side, resulting in yet two more Norwich wins – this time at 25-21 and 25-23.
Madison Hadfield, Michaela Henderson and Kyle Lavergne all had two aces – while Lavergne added six blocks and Henderson added 11 assists. Alexis Dietzen had four kills, with Shelbie Merritt having seven digs.
For the Tornado; Layla Burton had one kill and nine digs, followed by Ripley Strong three assists and one dig, Riley Strong with three assists and one dig, Kalie Binelli with four aces, four kills and eight digs, Alexis Taylor with two aces, one assist, nine kills and eight digs, LeahAnne Humphrey with 11 assists and three kills, and Kylie Marvin with one assist, one kill and four digs.
Next up for Norwich volleyball (3-1 overall, 2-1 league), following their 3-0 win over SV (1-4 overall) the Tornado will be home against Chenango Forks on Thursday, September 28, at 6:30 p.m.
Notably, SV’s Junior Varsity squad took the win over Norwich at 2-1.
