Lady Trojans dominate the Black Knights at home

GREENE – Greene hosted the always daunting Black Knights of Windsor for a showdown of the two field hockey squads, as Greene emerged victorious in an easy 5-2 win.
“It was 3-0 pretty quickly, once that happened I tried to move some girls around to get them in different spots,” said Greene head coach Christine McCabe. “We have small team, I wanted to make sure most of our players are versatile and able to play in lots of different positions. We played well, we had a lot of shots and a lot of opportunities.”
And that they did.
Greene managed to have a massive 23 shots on goal and nine corners, en route to a big 4-1 first half on Tuesday, September 26. Notably, Greene allowed one goal to come in from Windsor with approximately a minute and a half left in the half – drawing the game to 4-1.
Scoring in the first half for Greene was McKenna Sergi (one goal and two assists), Claire Moxley (two goals), and Jessica Unkel (one goal and one assist).
The second half of play, coach McCabe continued to experiment with lineups and positions – as the half score ended at 1-1 for a 5-2 final in favor or Greene.
“I kind of moved people around and shifted things a little bit. They scored with about five minutes left in the second half,” said coach McCabe.
Scoring Greene’s lone second half goal was newly brought up freshman, Selena Emery. With the goal comes Emery’s first of hopefully many varsity goals scored.
“I am excited that she (Emery) scored because she has been working hard,” said coach McCabe.
Scoring for Windsor in their road loss was Larissa Balachick (one goal and one assist), and Marliana Bartolillo (one goal) – Windsor managed 10 shots on goal and three corners.
Saves for either squad were lopsided, as Windsor’s Alivia Rounds was asked to make 16, while Brooke Austin was only needed to make five.
Next up for Greene field hockey (6-3 overall), they will be traveling to Rome Free Academy for a weekend tournament. Greene will first face off with Liverpool on Friday, September 29, before playing either Holland-Patent or Rome Free Academy – depending on the outcome of the four-team tournament.
