Greene volleyball takes home win over lady Blackhawks

GREENE – A hard-fought battle between the two Chenango County MAC teams resulted in the Greene Trojans taking a 3-1 win at home.
Oxford came to visit the Trojan volleyball program on Wednesday, September 27. Following a 25-23 win, Greene followed that up with a 25-21 win – hope looked bleak for Oxford.
Yet, hope was still alive.
Down 2-0 to Greene, Oxford flipped the script for a 27-25 – extra points needed – win, drawing the team score to 2-1.
While that move truly was able to send some shock into the Greene players, Oxford taxed themselves too much – dropping their very next set by a dismal 25-13 score.
For Greene, Kira Bush had five aces and one dig, Chey Rich had five aces and four kills, Val Straeg had three aces and two digs – with Julianna Ayres adding in four aces.
Oxford saw some positive individual results despite the tough loss, as Allison Beckwith had six aces and three assists, Jesse Howe had four aces and four digs, while Destiny Oralls had five aces and five digs.
Next up for Oxford volleyball (2-3 overall, 2-2 league), they will be on the road next for a showdown with Unadilla Valley on Friday, September 29, at 6:30 p.m.
Greene volleyball will be home next for a home game against Unatego, on September 29, at 4:30 p.m.
