NORWICH – A 33-year-old man will serve three and a half years in the prison after being sentenced in Chenango County Court on Monday.
Timothy J. Reid, 33, of Binghamton appeared in front of Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr., after being charged with multiple drug and weapons charges in July 2016.
Reid plead guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony and was sentenced by Chenango County Court Judge Frank Revoir Jr. to serve three and a half years in prison with three years of post-release supervision. The second charge was criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony for which he will serve one year with one year post release supervision. The sentences will run concurrent with each other, meaning the longer charge will supersede the shorter one.
The charges stem from an incident dating back to July 19, 2016 in the Town of Oxford following a traffic stop for alleged speeding on State Route 12.
According to the New York State Troopers in Norwich, upon further investigation Reid was found to be driving with an open alcohol container while in possession of a loaded handgun, methamphetamine, ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, mushrooms, oxycodone, diazepam, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and fireworks.
Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. stated during the proceedings that Reid needed to change his life before he returns to society. Judge Revoir said, "This is an opportunity to turn things around, you'll still be young when you get out."
Reid was given the opportunity to address the court, saying, "I understand what I did was wrong, I hurt my family and I have to do what I have to do to make it right."
