Storm captures first at the MAC Conference Golf Championship

CHENANGO VALLEY – Unadilla Valley are the Midstate Athletic Conference champions in golf after shooting a team score of 537, topping the second place team Sidney by 16 strokes. Sidney ended as the league regular season winner as they finished with a record of 12-0.
UV improved drastically from last year’s tournament that ended in a second to last place finish.
The Storm’s stellar performance was lead by ninth grader Brandon Kneale and junior Andrew Jackson, who both recorded an 18-hole round 87. Also tying the low 87 was Delhi’s Ben Arehart. To determine the winner, tie-breaker rules came into effect.
UV’s Kneale was crowned the MAC Conference individual winner after he was established the winner of the tie-breakers. Delhi’s Arehart finished second and the Storm’s Jackson followed with third place.
Other area schools that partcipated were Bainbridge-Guilford, Greene, Afton-Harpurville, Oxford, Sidney and Deposit-Hancock.
Bainbridge-Guilford’s youngsters finished with a final team score of 644 as they were led by Triston Wilson’s 112.
Afton-Harpursville’ Logan Culver snagged the sixth spot in the leaderboard as he posted a 93 for his round while the team tallied a score of 579.
Delhi’s second place finisher Arehart led his team with his score while teammate Miles Philion ended his 18-holes with a 91. The Bulldogs had a final team score of 562 and a third place finish.
The Blackhawks final team scorecard read 580 as Jason Davis played his was to a 96 while teammate Garrett Depew finished with a 105.
Trojan’s Wyatt Harrison recorded his team’s lowest round of 97 as his team finished the day with a 582.
Sidney grabbed second place as a team with their final score of 553. Dominic Hartwell represented the Warriors atop the leaderboard as his finished in fourth with a score of 91.
Mason Karcher ended his day with a 106 as Deposit-Hancock finished fourth overall for the tournament.
The Greene Trojans were awarded the season’s Sportsmanship Award.
The MAC Conference also handed out their first and second All-Star team honors. First team All-Stars were Arehart, Philion, Jackson, Harrison, Culver and Hartwell. Second team nods were awarded to Kneale, Davis, Corbin Constable and Depew.
The tournament is the end of many golfers season in the MAC. A few will go on to golf in the Section IV championship as they have met the qualifications to enter. Those golfers will be announced as soon as a report is received along with a tournament date.
