Oxford upsets Lady Warriors in five sets; captures spot in MAC Championship

WALTON – In a match that bounced back and fourth, the three-seed Lady Blackhawks took down the two-seed Walton Warriors in an exciting five set match, 3-2.
Walton won the first set 25-23, showing the reason they were the two-seed. But Oxford responded with same score as the first but flipped in their favor.
The Lady Warriors won the third set 25-19, setting themselves up for the win with just one more game needed to end the match.
The Blackhawks answered winning the fourth set 25-17, forcing the fifth game, which would have to decide the winner.
Oxford held nothing back in the last set, upsetting the higher seed Warriors 25-18.
Both teams had outstanding play by their players. Leading the way for the Lady Blackhawks were Krysten Vigus, Andrea Dempsey, Allison Beckwith, Destiny Oralls. Kelsey Drewniak and Jessie Howe.
Walton had strong preformances from Jamie Klein, Gretchen Decker, Lizzie DeFalco, Claire Loker and Romary Snider.
Walton will face Unatego in the consolation match on Thursday, October 19 at 5 p.m. Oxford will travel to the first seeded Bainbridge-Guilford for the championship match of the MAC tournament on Friday evening at 5 p.m.
