Lady Tornado digs out big win over Forks Blue Devils

CHENANGO FORKS – Winning in four sets, Norwich took down Chenango Forks behind the strong play of the entire team. Norwich was led by the good play of Kali Binelli and Alexis Taylor, who each had 11 kills in the match, the Purple Tornado secured their seventh match win of the 2017 season.
The first set, Norwich took down the Lady Blue Devils 25-14. The second set is where the Lady Tornado had some trouble with Forks as they lost 24-26.
“We struggles a little in the second game,” said Norwich Head Coach Shelly Alger. “We made some position changes in the third and things turned around.”
The Purple looked like the team from the first set, winning 25-17. They finished the game with the 25-15 win in the fourth to give Norwich the win to bring home.
Besides Binelli and Taylor, Norwich had many stand-outs in the match. Kylie Marvin came off the bench and gave the Lady Tornado great defense as she produced 14 digs. Taylor also match the dig count of Marvin.
Offensively, Norwich had five aces from Jazmin Rodriguez while Ripley Strong provided nine assists and LeahAnne Humphrey assisted on six points.
The Lady Tornado Junior Varsity team also brought home the win over Chenango Forks, winning all three games.
The Purple Tornado will host Oneonta on Thursday, October 19 at 6:30, following the JV match that starts at 5 p.m. As this game will be the final home contest of the regular season, Coach Alger along with Norwich’s underclassmen will be honoring their three seniors; Jazmin Rodriguez, LeahAnne Humphrey and Kalie Binelli. The senior recognition will take place between the JV and Varsity matches.

JV: Norwich defeated Chenango Forks, 3-0.
