Marauders move on in Section III playoffs with 2-1 over Jugglers

SHERBURNE – In a match up featuring the speed of the Sherburne-Earlville with the physicality of the Utica Notre-Dame, the Marauders prevailed as they beat the Juggles 2-1, securing a second-round game in the Section III Class C tournament.
The Marauders struck first when Kyle Cole dribbled past two defenders and blasted a shot 16 yards away. It hit the side of the far post and bounced into the goal, giving S-E the lead at the 23 minute mark in the first half.
The Marauder 1-0 lead continuted through intermission and into the second-half.
With all out pressure in the first 10 minutes of the half, Utica Notre Dame created numerous corner kick opportunities for themselves. Patrick Peko's perfect pass off a corner connected with the head of teammate Derik Lindsey who directed his header towards the goal. Lindsey found the back of the net with his attempt, evening the score at 1-1.
The Marauders responded with a long pass to Edward Geier, who used his speed to pass by the Jugglers back line for a 1 v 1 with the keeper. Geier's shot passed by keeper Vinny DeStefano for the potential game winning goal with 12 minutes to play.
S-E's defense held on to lead, giving the Marauders the win.
Goalkeeper Conor Ryan's play throughout the match was major, as he controlled the goal and stopped several Jugglers' threats.
The Marauders next sectional game will be on the road, traveling to Frankfort- Schuyler. The higher seed Frankfort-Schuyler took down their opponent, LayFayette, 2-1 on Wednesday. Right now, the game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start on Friday but is subject to change.
