FRANKFORT – On Friday, the Marauders traveled to Frankfort-Schuyler to face the Maroon Knights in a quarterfinal Class C sectional match in a game that was a tale of two halves.
The Maroon Knights started the match with an intensity that paid off early. Jordan Kane’s corner kick in the third minute of play found teammate Kyle Furguson, who used his head to make it past S-E’s keeper Conor Ryan.
The Marauders came close to answering on two occasions, hoping to level up the score, when they contended in the second half of play, Frankfort-Schuyler’s goalie Andrew Silchuk stopped all Sherburne-Earlville challenges, keeping a clean sheet on the way to ending the Marauders run in the sectional play.
“This season was one that these players overcame adversity,” said head coach Michael Rodriguez. “We started the season with only 13 players due to numerous
injuries and my starting keeper needed to play the field as a result.
“We took the ‘next man up’ mentality and saw positive growth in players when suddenly,
more was expected of them. We achieved our goal of qualifying for sectionals and had a good run. It is a season in which the team achieved its goals and a season that we can certainly build on. I am proud of the players for their effort, comraderie, and most importantly how they represented the values that are at the core of our soccer program.”
The Marauders end their season with a final overrall record of 6-10-2.
