Bobcats end 2017 season with 6-3 record

BAINBRIDGE – In preparing for their final game of the season last Friday, Bainbridge-Guilford’s head coach Israel Lorimer told his kids all week, “Six-and-three sounds a lot better than five-and-four.”
With the help of senior Adam Ives, who scored one offensive and one defensive touchdown, the Bobcats ending their 2017 season with the better record of 6-3, taking down the Thomas A. Edison Spartans, 27-6.
Ives scored early in the second quarter from just outside the goal line on for his first and only offensive touchdown of the season. “I tried to get him [Ives] a touchdown because he’s been a four year player for me and two years as a captain. I was happy when he rushed it in for the score,” said Lorimer.
The second score came off a really nice drive by the Bobcats that was finished off by Ben Bivar, punching it from one yard out. Tom Palmatier caught a two-point conversion pass by quarterback Trevor Halaquist. With 1:03 remaining in the first half, Bainbridge-Guilford had a 14-0 lead.
Scoring as the horn sounded was Edison’s Hunter Farley as he received a pass from his quarterback, Logan Scheepsma, for 40-yards and six points.
At the intermission, the Bobcats carried the 14-6 lead.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Ives picked up a fumble that was bouncing in and out of the hands of Spartans players and took it 27 yards, giving B-G their third touchdowns of the game and Ives his only defensive score of the season. Halaquist tacked on the extra-point field goal, giving the Bobcats a 21-6 advantage.
Only allowing Edison to gain 167 yards total offense, Bainbridge-Guilford shut down any other scoring opportunities the Spartans had and giving up the one touchdown at the end of the half. Leading the way on the defensive side of the ball for the Bobcats were Bivar, Ives and Jon Castle, who all had a total of nine tackles in the contest. Bivar also had the other fumble recovery forced by the B-G defense.
This also being the last game of his high school football career, Halaquist rushed for one yard and the final score of the Bobcats season, leading to the score of 27-6.
Bivar led all rushers with 130 yards on 16 carries. Halaquist carried nine times for 36 yards. Alan Terzo caught two balls from Halaquist for 76 yards. Halaquist went four-for-eight throwing the ball on the evening.
The Spartans were led by Nick Paribello as he ran for 109 yards on the ground on 43 rushing attempts.
One of the biggest wins for the Bobcats during their successful season came when they beat Walton for the first time in over 45 years.
