2017 Football Contest comes to a close after 10 weeks

CHENANGO COUNTY – The Evening Sun annual Football Contest brought many entries throughout the 10 week season. With this being my first year in charge of the contest, I enjoyed calling the winner every week to make their day. I also appreciated the feedback I received over the course of contest because it helped me form how the contest was reported each week as well as in the future.
Thank you to all people who submitted an entry throughout the 10 weeks, whether you submitted once or every week.
This year, we had one who picked a perfect entry (Janice Coleman of Norwich) and one person who won twice over the 10 weeks (Sylvia Figary of Norwich).
The final week winner is Greg Campbell of Oxford, as he correctly predicted 18 of the 20 games. The two that he incorrectly predicted were the Georgia at Auburn, which is a game that was incorrectly guessed on many entries, and Vikings at Redskins. Campbell choose Georgia and the Redskins.
There were two entries that had 16 correct predictions. Those two entries were Harry Armondi of Oxford and Travis Smith of Norwich. To award second place for the week, the tie breaker game came into effect. Smith snagged second place by picking Wake Forest to win as Armondi choose Syracuse. Wake Forest won the game with a final of 64-43 over the Orange.
The Evening Sun thanks all 10 sponsors for their participation responding with their expert picks each week for the past 10 weeks.
Congratulations to Andy Lagoe of Gilligan’s in Sherburne, who captured first place over the 10 weeks. Lagoe finished on a high note as he choose 16 games correctly in week 10. Kevin Walsh of the Parker-Walsh Team, finished in second this week as he correctly predicted 15 games. Walsh also finished second for the 10 week contest.
