BAINBRIDGE – The Capital Region Toys for Tots Christmas Train will be chugging to a stop in Bainbridge again this year to distribute gifts to Chenango County organizations.

The highly anticipated 2017 United States Marines, Amtrak, Norfolk Southern and Dunkin' Donuts Distribution Train will be stopping at five locations from Binghamton to Delanson on Saturday, making its stop in Bainbridge from 12:05 p.m. to 12:40 p.m.

The Marines invite any and all families in need, onlookers and enthusiasts to show support for the Capital Region Toys for Tots by joining them at one of the exciting stops along the route. There are no signups, qualifications or prerequisites for attendance.

Local Coordinating Officer and New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter says, "We're there as a local Toys for Tots presence and to support the US Marines and their attendance. Catholic Charities of Chenango County is a great example of one of our local organizations we partner with that is there and receives toys to help out families and children in need."

The children in attendance will see Santa and Mrs. Claus, uniformed service members and volunteers at each of the stations. New unwrapped toys, coats, hats, gloves, cookies and blankets will be handed out to any child in attendance.

Official brand sponsor Dunkin' Donuts will have hot chocolate and munchkins for all who attend.

Potter says the Toys for Tots train goes through each year to help the "not-for-profits" and they are there to represent the local Toys for Tots chapter.

"Through the generosity of donations, local 501(c)(3) organizations are able to pick up toys which will then be distributed to families in need around the county."

"The Norwich Police Department help gather the toys and are generous enough to help get them back to Norwich to our headquarters which is in the old Rite Aid building," Potter said. That building is located at 90 North Broad Street in Norwich.

"Everything coming off the train is labeled and it's very well organized," said Potter of the event. The bags of toys are labeled specifically for each organization to ensure timely and efficient stops throughout the day.

"We're fortunate that each year there's a generous donation on the train for us here in Chenango County."

Toys collected from the train as well as from the organizations collecting throughout the county from October through December will be handed out on December 11 to families by appointment only.

People can call 6072448124 or 6073713567 to set up an appointment with one of the Toys for Tots volunteers.

If there are businesses or individuals that would like to donate to the Chenango chapter, Potter says they will have boxes at the Toys for Tots Christmas Train event. "We appreciate all donations."
