Two local community members start The Scarf Project to bring warmth to those in need
NORWICH – Community members looking to donate gently used winter wear can find an opportunity right in Chenango County through The Scarf Project.
Norwich residents Autumn Joseph and Jamie Maerz came up with The Scarf Project after they talked about having an excess number of scarves in their closets.
Maerz said, "We had a bunch of scarves left over that we hadn't worn in a while that we would like to give to a good cause and it just spiraled from there. We decided that we were going to find out those in the area who had the same problem, and give the items to people that need them."
This is the first year of the project, but Maerz says they are hoping to make it an annual event. Local businesses have asked for collection bins, including NBT-MANG, The Artists' Palette, Frontier, some of the NBT Banks as well as a teacher from Afton.
