The Village of New Berlin to celebrate Christmas all month long
NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin will be filled with holiday cheer throughout December, holding annual events all month long.
The festivities kick off on Saturday December 2 with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The ceremony is held every year at the four corners in the middle of New Berlin at 6 p.m.
New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter said, “We will have a DJ playing Christmas favorites, the Unadilla Valley Elementary, Middle, and High School students will be in attendance singing songs, and the Community Church Choir will also be performing.”
Santa Claus will make an appearance, with a little help from the New Berlin Fire Department who will help bring Santa to the ceremony.
Light refreshments will be available as well as small gifts from Santa. Parents are invited to bring their own cameras to take pictures as their children meet Santa.
The following week, on Saturday December 9, is the Village of New Berlin Community Christmas Celebration. The celebration will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Masonic Temple located on North Main Street in New Berlin. There will be a photographer taking pictures of Santa and the children, refreshments, and fun holiday activities.
On Saturday December 16, The Spirit of Christmas celebration returns to New Berlin, bringing food and fun to the families of the area.
Potter said, “Our goal is to help as many families as we can that are within our school district. We help provide food baskets and toys to families.”
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, St-Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, The First United Methodist Church and The Columbus Methodist Church are all taking donations for The Spirit of Christmas food and toy baskets.
“It’s a joint effort and we definitely rely on volunteers and church members to help out, they are really the only reason we’re able to pull this off,” said Potter.
Applications to receive a food basket need to be filled out and handed in by Wednesday December 13. They can be picked up at the New Berlin NBT, The Village Office, or The New Berlin Library.
