DELHI – With games on back-to-back days as a participant in the Delhi Tournament, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats played very similar both days.
Starting out struggling in the first half, the Bobcats were only able to score 20 points while allowing their opponent to score 36 and take a 16 point lead into the intermission.
The second half did pick up for B-G as they came out of halftime scoring 14, cutting into Delhi’s lead. The Bobcats defense only gave up a total of five points in the third quarter, pulling within seven.
In the final quarter, Bainbridge-Guilford was able outscore the Bulldogs by one point but it wasn’t enough as they were handed the six point loss. They were scheduled to face Hunter-Tannersville after they lost their opening round game as well.
The consolation game went the exact same way for the Bobcats as they put up 15 in the first half while allowing Hunter-Tannersville to jump out to a 18 point lead heading into the locker room.
The game got as far as a 20 point deficit before B-G kicked into gear and started to climb their way back.
Pulling within seven points with 1:30 left in the game, the Bobcats had to start fouling and force their opponent to beat them at the line.
Hunter-Tannersville missed a good portion of their free-throws, still leaving Bainbridge-Guilford an opportunity to cut even further into the lead. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were unable to covert late in the game.
Trevor Halaquist contributed 13 against Delhi and 15 versus Hunter-Tannersville, leading the Bobcats on the second day. Tom Palmatier led the team on Friday night with 16 and added nine in Saturday’s consolation game.
Bainbridge-Guilford travel to Chenango Forks next as they will look to get their first win of the season over the non-league opponent. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

McGraw 59, Otselic Valley 26
OTSELIC – The Otselic Valley Vikings season opener didn’t go as they had hope as McGraw came in to their home gym and controlled the game from the start, winning the contest 59-26 on Friday, December 1.
McGraw opened the game with a 23 point first quarter and defensively held the host team to only four points. “It is clear that McGraw put in the off season work as it appeared to pay off for them,” said OV’s head coach Jacob Preston. “They are a well coached team.”
The Vikings did receive good all-around play from Gordon Marshall as he finished with two three-pointers on the night, tallying six points on the night. His teammate, Tanner Costa, led Otselic Valley with nine points. McGraw’s leading scorer was Chase Curtis finishing with a game-high 12 points for the contest.
The Vikings will look for a win in their second game of the season when they host Madison Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Chenango Valley 75, Oxford 35
OXFORD – The speed and athleticism of the Chenango Valley Warriors proved to be too much for the Blackhawks to handle last Thursday, November 30. The Warriors never had a totaling less than 10 points on their way to a 40 point win over the host Oxford.
“CV’s athleticism and speed combined to create a tough defense for us to adjust to,” said Oxford head coach Tim Davis. Davis went on to say that Chenango Valley’s shooting percentage was double his team’s, which can make it very hard to overcome any scoring deficit.
The Warriors had pretty balance scoring in the contest. They were led by Nathan Klein as his finished with 16 points. His colleague Pat Giblin chipped in 12.
Oxford’s Jason Davis shot 75-percent from the free-throw line, acquiring nine of his game-high 24. Davis also pulled down 15 boards, picking up a double-double in the contest.
The Blackhawks have a week long break of games before they travel to Sidney on Thursday, December 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. for the MAC league game.

BAINBRIDGE – After opening the season on the road with a win over Unadilla Valley, the Bainbridge-Guilford Lady Bobcats followed up with a 43 point win over the visiting Chenango Forks, improving their record to 2-0.
In their first game against the Lady Storm last Friday, the Bobcats scored 18 in the first quarter, holding their opponent to half the amount.
The Storm’s Julia Oglesby couldn’t be contained by B-G, as she dropped a game-high 23 points. Oglesby finished 3-for-4 (75-percent) from the free-throw line.
Bainbridge-Guilford’s Megan Palmatier finished that game with a team-high 19 points while Abi (12) and Erica Selfridge (11) combined for a total 23 points. Their teammate, Kori Thronton, hit four three-pointers in the contest, finishing with 12 points as well.
In their game on Monday, the Lady Bobcats again opened with a large lead, scoring 19 and holding Chenango Forks to a mere six points.
B-G scored no less that 19 in a quarter with a strong 24 in the third.
But it wasn’t only scoring for that got it done for the the Bobcats on Monday night.
As a team, Bainbridge-Guilford finished with 19 assists and 48 total rebounds. Palmatier had 15 of those rebounds and eight of the teams assists, nearly recording a triple-double as she added a game-high to at least capture a double-double on the evening.
Abi Selfridge also recorded a double-double in the contest as she had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
B-G and UV will both travel to Sherburne-Earlville for their annual Tip-off Tournament this weekend with the first-round getting started on Friday. Schedule for the tournament will appear in a later edition of the paper.

LAURENS – After both teams lost in the opening round of the Laurens Tournament, Afton and Gilberstville-Mt. Upton provided an exciting consolation game where four quarters of regulation wasn’t enough to declare a winner.
Forcing the tie with .1 of a second left was GMU’s Marena Zaczek, hitting a foul shot to force overtime.
With an extra four minutes of basketball, both teams combined for one point. Afton’s Caleigh Stevens was the lone scorer in the extra time with a free-throw, earning the win for her team and stunning the Lady Raiders.
Marena Zaczek led all scorers in the game with 11 with GMU’s Scarlett Newman adding 10 in their loss.
Afton was led by Casey East, scoring 10 points and recording a double-double with her 11 steals. Her teammate, Samantha Schoelier, was two points shy of a triple-double as her stat-line showed 24 rebounds, 10 steals and eight points.
Afton’s next game will be just a few minutes down the road against Harpursville on Thursday. Game is schedule to start at 5 p.m.
