MARGARETVILLE – In the opening round of the Margaretville Tournament on Thursday, Afton's Zach Alford and Tyler King combined for 19 of their team's total made field goals as the Crimson Knights defeated Roxbury 69-66 on Thursday. But the drama ensued at the end.
With 15 seconds left, the Rockets had a chance to get the last basket of regulation and force extra time, trailing 69-66.
The Rockets' Isaac Walker, who already had six three's in the game, put up a a shot from behind the arc as the clock was nearing zero. Walker couldn't get this attempt to fall as Afton went on to win and advance to Saturday's championship game.
Roxbury held a close 41-39 advantage going in the half as both teams created a back and forth lead changing game for the fans in the gym.
In the third quarter, Afton came out of the intermission controlling the contest as they outscored the Rockets 20-9. The Crimson Knight took a nine point lead into the final eight minutes.
The Rockets answered with a run to get back into the game but it just wasn't enough to take home the win and advance into the championship game.
Walker finished with a game-high 29 points in the loss. His teammate, Anthony Cortese, chipped in with ten points.
Afton was led by King, finishing the contest with a team-high 21 as Alford added 19.

Despite the loss, Norwich's 200-yard medley relay team – consisting of Aidan Sullivan, Ryan Loeffler, Matthew Giglio, and Griffin Frank – pulled off a nice win in the water for the Tornado, finishing their relay in 2:03:11.

HARPURSVILLE – The 32-man roster that the Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville (BGAH) Bears wrestling team is not only impressive in numbers, but they are in size and talent as well.
Coming off a team victory at the 55th Annual Clyde Cole Tournament, the Bears picked up right where they left off a week ago. Winning.
BGAH took victories in all but four weight classes on Wednesday against Chenango Valley, most from pins.
Bears' stand-out Ben Bivar pinned his opponent, Coleston Volpe (CV) in 1:30 in the second to last match of the evening.
Brock Weist of BGAH, a favorite in Section IV in the 220lbs weight class, was the only match for the Bears to be decided by a decision. He won over Trenton Gates, 5-1.
BGAH heads to Otselic Valley on Saturday for an all day tournament hosted by the Vikings. Wrestling will start at 9 a.m.

NORWICH – The Tornado boys swimming and diving squad fell short to Windsor in its first matchup of the season on Thursday, losing 86-63.
Despite the loss, Norwich's 200-yard medley relay team – consisting of Aidan Sullivan, Ryan Loeffler, Matthew Giglio, and Griffin Frank – pulled off a nice win in the water for the Tornado, finishing their relay in 2:03:11.

HARPURSVILLE – The 32-man roster that the Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville (BGAH) Bears wrestling team is not only impressive in numbers, but they are in size and talent as well.
Coming off a team victory at the 55th Annual Clyde Cole Tournament, the Bears picked up right where they left off a week ago. Winning.
BGAH took victories in all but four weight classes on Wednesday against Chenango Valley, most from pins.
Bears' stand-out Ben Bivar pinned his opponent, Coleston Volpe (CV) in 1:30 in the second to last match of the evening.
Brock Weist of BGAH, a favorite in Section IV in the 220lbs weight class, was the only match for the Bears to be decided by a decision. He won over Trenton Gates, 5-1.
BGAH heads to Otselic Valley on Saturday for an all day tournament hosted by the Vikings. Wrestling will start at 9 a.m.
