Double homicide suspect detained following high-speed chase
LAURENS – Authorities in Otsego County are investigating a double homicide that occurred in the Town of Laurens on Tuesday.
Otsego County Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr. announced the double homicide and subsequent investigation on Wednesday, and said that a suspect has since been detained.
The names of the victims and suspect have yet to be released, but an Associated Press story states that a male suspect was detained following a high-speed chase on Interstate 88 after 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
The report states that deputies attempted to pull over a male suspect leading to a high-speed chase and the suspect eventually crashing his vehicle into guardrails near I-88 Exit 23.
AP reports that the suspect was taken to Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown for treatment of minor injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being facilitated by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office, the New York State Police, and the Otsego County District Attorney's Office. Otsego County Coroner Knapp has been assigned the case.
A release on behalf of Sheriff Devlin said additional information will be distributed by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office later in the day Wednesday.
