Son arrested in slaying of parents in Laurens

LAURENS – Authorities have arrested the son of the deceased in the wake of a double homicide that occurred in the Town of Laurens Tuesday.

Kevin A. Perry, 23, is charged with murder in the first degree and criminal use of a firearm after the alleged slaying of his parents, Timothy A. Perry, 59, and Solveige E. Perry, 52.

At 8:49 p.m. on Tuesday, Otsego County Sheriff's Deputies and New York State Police responded to a scene at 400 New Road in the Town of Laurens after a 911 call noted two possibly deceased persons. Authorities arrived at the scene and an investigation revealed that the victims were killed by injuries sustained from a long gun.

Otsego County Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr. said that the accused's sister located the bodies of the deceased in the residence before calling 911.

After family members of the victims reported that a vehicle was missing from the scene, deputies identified a description of the missing vehicle and notified law enforcement statewide.

Members of the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office spotted the vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate-88 on Tuesday night and attempted to pull over Perry.

Authorities report that Perry then attempted to elude police and flee, resulting in a vehicle pursuit that ended in Perry crashing his vehicle near I-88 Exit 23 and subsequently being detained by Sheriffs and New York State Police.

A motive has not yet been identified as the investigation remains ongoing.

Perry was arraigned in the Town of Oneonta Court on Wednesday and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility without bail.

The investigation is continuing by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office, the NYS Police, and the Otsego County District Attorney's Office.
