Chenango traffic stop seizes nearly two-pounds of pot
CHENANGO – Troopers arrested a 21-year-old Delaware man for possession of nearly two-pounds of marijuana after a routine traffic stop in the Town of Chenango on Tuesday.
New York State Police arrested James Y. Togo of Wilmington, DE after pulling over Togo for speeding on Interstate 81 and detecting a strong odor of marijuana.
Troopers say Togo produced a marijuana cigarette during the traffic stop to account for the smell, and a follow-up K9 sweep of the vehicle revealed nearly two-pounds of marijuana, a scale, drug paraphernalia, various controlled substances, and over $4,000 in cash.
Togo was subsequently arrested and charged with two felonies: criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.
He was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and other traffic violations.
Police say Togo's 2012 Volkswagen was impounded and Togo was arraigned at the Broome County Centralized Adjudication facility.
Togo was then remanded to the Broome County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond.
