Chenango United Way encourages community donations as campaign deadline nears
CHENANGO COUNTY – With less than two weeks remaining until the Chenango United Way's 2017 fundraising campaign deadline, CUW Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco says the organization is still about $87,000 short of its goal.
Consequently, Monaco is encouraging those in the Chenango County community who haven't donated yet to do so, thus helping ensure organizations within the area receive the critical funding they need.
"A lot of our corporate employee campaigns are coming in at or above goal, which is fabulous, but our general community campaigns this year are low," said Monaco. "We're trying to encourage the broader community outside of our business campaigns to remember to contribute this year."
Monaco said CUW currently has 26 applications from local organizations requesting $441,000 worth of funding for 2018, which is already more than CUW's fundraising goal of $419,000. As of Monday, CUW had raised about 80 percent of its goal, or about $332,000.
"If we don't meet or exceed our goal, critical organizations and programs in our community inevitably won't be able to be funded," said Monaco. "We have a lot of needs this year in our three categories of income, education, and health."
Monaco said you can donate to CUW one of three ways: on the CUW website (www.chenangouw.org), by mailing a check to CUW, or by stopping in at the CUW office.
CUW is located at 83 North Broad Street in Norwich. Checks to the CUW 2017 campaign should be dated on or before December 31.
"If we don't reach our goal, we won't be able to provide funding to critical programs, and that will mean that local people in the community won't be able to receive services," said Monaco.
