WINDSOR – Norwich’s Marcus Cashman was quiet in the first half as he was only in the book for two free-throws. But the third quarter was all his. Norwich trailed by as many as 12 before Cashman knocked down four in a row from behind the arc, helping the Purple Tornado tie the game up at the end of the third.
Tornado Mujuni Mutabiilwa shot six-for-eight at the foul line and added a bucket, scoring eight and Michael Carson chipped in six, combining for 14 of Norwich’s 20 in the fourth, the quarter where the visiting team took control of the game to win the contest 72-58.
Windsor always gives Norwich a test when they play on their home court. This matchup between the two teams was no different until the fourth.
The Black Knights were behind by 16-6 at the end of the first stanza. But Tim Buchek took over in the second, scoring nine of Windsor’s 25 points and the Black Knights went into the intermission only down by a point.
Carrying the momentum, Windsor continued their ways as Buchek added another six in the quarter. Teammate Zach Wolcott sunk three three-pointers, increasing their lead to 12.
That’s when Cashman went off, getting Norwich back into the game, swinging the mometum in favor of the Purple Tornado for the rest of the way.
“This game was another great learning experience for our young guys,” said Purple Tornado assistant coach Tom Collier. “We need to build off of the fourth quarter and take that into Thursday’s game as we will be playing a very tough opponent [Moravia].”
Cashman finished with 12 while Mutabiilwa recorded the game-high 19 points. Carson kicked in a total of 17 and Marcus Benjamin chipped in throughout the course of the game with 14 while grabbing five boards. J.T. Vinal pulled down a team-high
Bucheck had the team-high 17 points for the Black Knights. Wolcott chimed in with 11.
Norwich will take on Moravia on Thursday, December 21 for their final game before the holiday break.
