CLINTON- The difference maker in Sherburne-Earlville’s 73-64 setback to the Clinton Warriors on Tuesday night was during the second quarter.
During the second eight minute session, the Warriors defense held steadfast against the hot Marauder offense that took a slim 18-16 lead into the period. The once two point lead for S-E, slowly morphed into a 13 point lead for Clinton entering halftime at 35-22.
Refusing to go away easily, S-E scored 20 points in the third with Hunter Lane scoring 10 of his 23 points in the quarter. Yet the Warriors proved to be equal to the task by scoring 21 points in the quarter, increasing their lead to 14 points.
In one final chance at victory, the Marauders unloaded all that was left of their offensive ammunition as Lane scored 11 points and Gabe Irwin scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter. Regardless, the Clinton offense refused to falter, keeping S-E within arm’s length while ultimately taking the win in hand.
Hunter Lane led the Marauders with 23 points in the contest and Sylas Swingle added 11. Clinton’s Matthew Hobika scored 20 and Tanner Deveans scored 18 to pace the Warriors.
