The match was a stalemate after one period but changed quick to start the second. Rice started on top and Knapp was able to get a quick escape, taking a 1-0 lead. Taking that lead into the third, Rice started on the bottom hoping to tie it with an escape of his own. But Knapp didn’t allow it and later went on to pin Rice with 1:32 left in the third.
“Besides the 4 forfeits we looked pretty good tonight,” said Norwich head coach Bob Hagenbuch. “We wrestled well and pretty much dominated SV, which is a good way to head into a tough Windsor Tournament next week.
“So far this season as a whole we are sitting pretty good. Having 2 starters out until tonight, sometimes four, we weathered the storm ending up with a 9-2 record. We will take that. I’m looking forward to seeing this team’s hard work pay off. It’s going to be exciting for sure.”
“I would also like to dedicate the win tonight in memory of Savannah Williams,” added Hagenbuch. “It was a year ago tonight that most of us received the horrible news just before our home meet started against Johnson City.”
