Lady Storm win Unadilla Valley Holiday Tournament; UV Boys fall to Vestal in tournament championship
NEW BERLIN – Brooke Brown brought down 14 rebounds on the way to the Storm's 40-19 tournament championship title over Sherburne-Earlville Thursday night.
Getting out to an early 11 point lead after one, the Lady Storm continued to grow it by outscoring the Marauders 10-2 in the second, giving the host team 23-5 advantage by intermission.
“We pretty much had control of the game from the start,” said UV's head coach Brandi Whitbeck. “Everyone played really well and it was a great team win.”
Coming off a 23 point performance from the night before, Sherburne-Earlville's Tessa Cole was shut down by the Storm's defense. She finished with two points on the night but earned an All-Tournament selection.
The Marauders were led by Kaitlyn Furner and Mckenzie Holmes as both scored five points each.
Brown finished with eight points while teammate Julia Oglesby ended the night with a game-high 11 and grabbing a double-double by pulling in 11 rebounds.
Hamilton’s Beth Bellinger, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton’s Madolyn Lull and Sherburne-Earlville’s Tessa Cole and Kaitlynn Furner rounded out the all-tournament team.
Unadilla Valley will be tested yet again at home on Thursday, January 4. The Storm will face Delhi, who is currently ranked at fourth in the NYS Rankings. Game is scheduled to tip at 7:15 p.m. The Lady Marauders host Waterville on Tuesday, January 2 at 7 p.m.

NEW BERLIN – Despite Andrew Jackson's 28 points and 12 rebound performance, the Storm fell short of the win against the Vestal Golden Bears in the Holiday Tournament championship Thursday night.
Scoring 26 points on Wednesday against Sherburne-Earlville, Vestal's Gabe Whiteman followed with another 20 point showing, finishing the game with 27 on his was to the tournament MVP honors.
Behind Jackson's 19 point first half, Unadilla Valley went into the break with a 30-22 lead. The Storm carried the lead into the fourth but were only up by four enter the final eight minutes of play. Two of Matt Carr's four three-pointers came in the quarter, helping Vestal take the lead.
Down the stretch, the Golden Bears went 8-16 from the free-throw line, allowing Vestal to keep the lead for the win.
Carr ended the night with a total of 14 points.
In the conslation game, Sherburne-Earlville topped Bainbridge-Guilford 64-46.
Balanced scoring contributed to the Marauders win, who rebounded nicely from the close lose to the tournament champs the night before.
Hunter Lane led Sherburne-Earlville's scorers with 19 points while teammate Tyler Bigford chipped in 14 in the win.
Sherburne-Earlville has powerhouse Cooperstown on the schedule for January 6. Unadilla Valley hosts Delhi on Friday, January 5 at 7:15 p.m.
