City officials highlight importance of snow removal

NORWICH – As we head into the heart of winter in Chenango County, City of Norwich officials are reminding residents about the importance of safe snow removal around one’s property.


City of Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo and Code Enforcement Officer Jason Lawrence are issuing reminders to residents of the city to keep their sidewalks clear of snow, as well as the area surrounding any fire hydrants.


Additionally, residents should ensure that their carbon monoxide detectors are functioning.

In the event of heavy snowfall, heating vents around houses should be cleared to ensure that carbon monoxide is properly exhausted from the house. Chawgo and Lawrence said the combination of a blocked heating vent and a malfunctioning carbon monoxide detector could be deadly.
