OV drops two straight in DeRuyter Holiday Tournament
DERUYTER – It was a long holiday break for the Vikings of Otselic Valley as they came up short in both of their contests over the course of December 27 and 28 as part of the DeRuyter Holiday tournament.
In the opening round of the tournament on December 27, the Vikings faced DeRuyter in a game where OV was overwhelmed offensively and defensively as DeRuyter took the game handily by a score of 81-30.
DeRuyter’s offensive force was a family affair as the Glisson clan of Frank, John, Louie and Allen combined to score 49 of their team’s 81 points on the night.
Despite their best defensive efforts, the Vikings found it nearly impossible to control the scoring barrage by the quartet. Louie Glisson led DeRuyter with 25 points in the game, while Clayton O’Hara led the Vikings with 10 points respectively.
In their second round game against Brookfield, the Vikings turned it around from a day prior. However, they still suffered the setback by a final score of 42-37. Otselic Valley started the contest off slow as the Brookfield offense soared out to a 20-10 lead by the conclusion of the first half.
As the game turned into the final quarter, OV started to put the basketball in the hoop. The Vikings surged for 19 points in the final quarter, but were unable to turn the corner and send the game into overtime or manage to take the lead.
“We got it to within four points with five seconds left, but just was not enough time to complete the comeback,” said Otselic Valley head coach Jacob Preston. “We showed some hustle at the end of the game, never giving in.”
Tyrell Owen and Fred King both led Brookfield with nine points, while Tanner Costa led OV with 12 points in the loss.
OV returns to the hardwood when they host Morrisville-Eaton on Wednesday January 3, with game time set for 7 p.m.
