Vance Gilbert returns to 6OTS
OXFORD – On Saturday, January 20, at 7:30 pm, 6 On The Square is pleased to welcome back the incomparable singer-songwriter Vance Gilbert. This gifted, contemporary folk performer has it all: tenor vocals fluid and enthralling; masterful guitar skills; sense of humor; and lyrical eloquence. His themes range from life to love, politics to religion, and then beyond.
Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 90’s when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-jazz singer who was knocking ‘em dead at Open Mics. The word spread of this Philadelphia-area born and raised performer to New York, where Shawn Colvin invited Vance to be a special guest on her fat city tour. He then took the audiences across the country by storm and the rest is….history!
Along with a razor sharp wit, Gilbert is one of the most entertaining singer-songwriters you’ll ever see, but, he can deftly change the mood of a show in an instant with a sincere delivery of one of his deep-flowing songs. His passionate vocal delivery of soul wrenching lyrics will give you a feeling of utter joy.
Gilbert’s sophisticated melodies have developed into a nice fusion of folk, pop, jazz, R&B, and gospel. At times his accomplishments seem larger-than-life, and he has just returned from a month-ling “down-under” tour of Australia.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram said of Gilbert: “With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god….” Purchase tickets for this show on-line at our website, www.6onthesquare.org at $20 pre-show, or $25 at the door. Our doors open 1 hour before the start of the performance.
Upcoming shows: Next To Kin on Saturday, January 27; Kyle Hancharick and Davey O. on Friday, February 9, and John McCutcheon on Friday, February 16.
6 On The Square, Inc. is a not for profit, volunteer-based community music and arts venue located at 6 Lafayette Park in downtown Oxford.
Be there, on the square, for live acoustic music in Oxford, NY!
