Lady Tornado score second win of season against Chenango Valley

NORWICH – Saturday night, the Lady Purple Tornado played their first league matchup since January 9. Norwich held the lead the entire game, topping the visiting Chenango Valley Warriors, 64-46.
For the second time in as many games, Norwich has recorded a 20-plus point first quarter. Halea Eaton, Sydney Coggins and Triniti Myers combined for 20 of the Purple’s 26 with Eaton hitting two field goals inside the three-point arc, Coggins knocking down two from behind it and Myers going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
In the second, the Tornado received balance scoring throughout the team went into the halftime break with a 40-23 score.
But the third quarter has been Norwich’s Achilles heel for most of the season. Saturday night was no different as the Tornado had a small defense lapse and were outscored by Chenango Valley, 16-10.
However, the home team rebounded in the fourth to again take the quarter en route to their win. This time, Hailey Colabelli led in the scoring column with five points. Colabelli finished with her career-high as she recorded 11 for the evening.
Eaton also finished with 11 points on the night – most of her baskets coming at the start of scoring spurts to lead the Purple rally.
Myers finished with a team-high 15. Chenango Valley’s Bella LoVuolo end the night leading all scorers with 17.
Norwich faces two tough opponents this as they host Susquehanna Valley on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. The Lady Tornado then goes on the road to Class AA Elmira on Saturday for a game starting at 4:45 p.m.
