OTSELIC –The girls of Otselic Valley and Morrisville-Eaton just met last Thursday in what turned out to be a thrilling game, ending with a 46-44 road loss for the Lady Vikings.
After a short turnaround and both teams having their opponents tendencies fresh in their mind, the two teams met again on Monday night.
The game was another exciting one but unfortunately the Otselic Valley again found themselves on the losing side of the 52-49 final, despite a strong comeback effort in the second half.
After the first stanza, the Lady Warriors held a 16-11 lead. While Morrisville-Eaton received balance scoring throughout their roster, it was Cassie Argen’s four and Amber Meigs’ seven that paced the Vikings.
Meigs went on a scoring tear, recording all of OV’s 13 second-quarter points. But Morrisville-Eaton also continued to score, extending their lead to a slightly bigger margin into intermission.
Morgan Phillips’ six points coming out of the halftime break helped the Warriors hold their lead after 24 minutes of play. Heading into the final quarter, Morrisville-Eaton held a 47-34 advantage.
With the stingy defense, the Vikings caused a scoring lapse for the opponent and they took the upper hand by posting their highest quarter of the contest. As the Vikings put up 15, Meigs and Argen accounted for all points scored in period.
However, their comeback effort fell short as the Warriors took the win on the road.
Megis ended the evening one rebound shy of a double-double, pulling down nine boards while recording 33 in the scoring column. Adding seven steals and four assists, Meigs filled in her statline in the loss. Argen chipped in eight points and stole the ball five times during the contest.
“We need to start playing a full game of basketball,” said Vikings’ head coach Nicholle Lippert. “We cannot come out flat then try to comeback in the second half.
“If we played the entire game with the intensity and heart that we did in the second half, this game as well as other would have ended up ours.”
Looking to put this game behind them, Otselic Valley plans to focus on their game Thursday at Stockbridge Valley. Tip-off is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
