Bears snatch a road win over Trojans
GREENE – Last Friday, the Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville (BGAH) Bears traveled to Greene for a league dual meet against the host Trojans.
The meet started at 160 pounds as BGAH took the first win of the night because of a Greene forfeit, putting six points on the board with no action needed.
Greene got the 12 points back and added another six, the winning the next two weight classes. At 170 pounds, Ty Nolan pinned the Bears’ Ben Roberts in 2:13. Following in his teammate’s footsteps, the Trojans’ Noah Kennedy pinned his opponent Rocco Arudini, in the second period at 3:12.
With the roster size of the Bears, there is no trouble for them to have a a wrestler at every weight class. BGAH earned five wins in the meet due to forfeits by Greene as they half the amount of wrestlers. Earning the second forfeit of the evening was Dalton Griffiths of the Bears.
Moving back to 99 pounds, BGAH earned its first decision win over Greene with one of their lightweight standouts, Jacob Terpstra. Terpstra took the win with a score of 7-2 over the Trojans’ Lyric Libbey.
Dylan Decker was next on the mat for the Bears at 106 pounds while it was Jordan Taft for the Greene. Decker defeated Taft with the closest decision of the match to that point, a 3-0 final score. But both the Bears’ Talon Rezucha and Damien Hitt of Green changed that. Going the fill three periods of the 120 pound match, Rezucha edged out Hitt with a one point decision.
Pinning Greene’s Hunter Wells, BGAH’s Dylan Wilmot recorded the fastest pin of the meet with 1:38.
Ben Bivar at 138 pounds and Haiden Burns, who lined up in the 132 pound slot, both earned their match wins because of a forfeit as well, giving another 12 points towards the Bears total.
The 145 pound match featured Greene’s Harrison Stone and Hayden Lewis of the BGAH. The match lasted the full six minutes and came down to a decision in favor of Stone, scoring three points for his team with the 5-0 win.
The last weight class was at 152 pounds. Shane Hoover was scored the with the final forfeit of the match, giving the Bears six points. As each forfeit and pin fall is recorded with six points, BGAH took the meet win with a 45-15 score. The win keeps the Bears uptop the MAC Division-I standings with a perfect league record. Greene is in the second place position with a record of 1-1.
The Bears wrestle later today, against Walton-Delhi, the Division-II leader. The Trojans are also in action on the mat at the same time, only on the road to face Unatego/Unadilla Valley. Both dual meets are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
