East records another double-double in Friday’s loss to Hornets
AFTON – The Crimson Knights Casey East recorded a double-double yet again in Friday’s contest but the Harpursville Hornets had control of the game throughout, winning over the home team Afton, 47-31.
Harpursville took an early 14-9 lead after one. The Crimson Knights outscored the Hornets in the second by one, carrying the lead to four at the halftime break.
But the Hornets came out of the intermission and scored 26 points in the second half behind Morgan Fleming’s 12 points, including two three-pointers. Fleming finished with 16 for the game.
Harpursville’s defense held Afton to just 14 points in the 16 minute span, shutting down any possibility of a comeback.
East’s double-double in the loss was with 13 points and 10 boards. Abbie Livermore also added 13 points for Afton.
Afton hosts Oxford on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for their regular season finale.

Unadilla Valley 55, Oxford 21
OXFORD – Shooting 48-percent from the floor in the first half, the Storm dominated from start to finish in their 55-21 win over the host Oxford Blackhawks Friday night.
With Meegan White’s six points leading the way, Unadilla Valley jumped out to an early 14-4 lead after the first. The Storm never slowed down to look back either as they added 16 more to close out the half time score as 30-11.
Unadilla valley out rebounded Oxford, 41-20, which a key factor in the Storm’s win on Friday night.
Both teams had all players record a point in the game.
In the fourth quarter, Gabby Bodie led the Storm with five points.
Oxford was led by Hannah Ryan’s seven points.
UV’s Meegan White lead the team with a game-high 11 while Oglesby added nine.
Oxford travels to Afton while Unadilla Valley hosts Greene on Tuesday, February 6. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
Pulaski 45, Otselic Valley 26
OTSELIC – The middle quarters of the game proved to be the difference in the Vikings 45-26 loss to the visiting Pulaski Devils.
Pulaski outscored Otselic Valley 30-9 in the two quarters after just holding the one points lead at the end first.
The Vikings won the fourth quarter, 11-8, behind Amber Meigs’ nine points. Meigs’ finished the game with another double-double on the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Saturday’s game was something more than just a game for the two coaches. Head coach Casey Jones of Pulaski was the softball coach of Nicholle Lippert – now Vikings head coach for the girls basketball team – at Phoenix high school.
“Saturday was special for the two of us and it was great to see him and coach against him,” said Lippert. “I hope my team takes away from this game that you can have a lifelong relationship with your coach and it just continues to grow.
“I still go to Coach [Jones] for advice and we just constantly check in with each other. This game was scheduled for us to coach against each other and to play a team that we don’t usually play. The girls played hard and rebounded well.
On Thursday, Otselic Valley lost to Brookfield 66-38.
In that contest, Meigs finished with 24 points to lead the Vikings.
Despite both losses, Otselic Valley has landed a spot in the Class D, Section III playoffs. A seed and game will be announced after the Section III seed meeting later next week.
But first, the Vikings host McGraw for their senior night. Game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off.
Seton Catholic Central 65, Norwich 41
BINGHAMTON – The Saints’ Julia Hauer had 20 rebounds and 4 blocks to go with a team-high 19 points on Thursday, again being a force that the Purple had trouble stopping on back-to-back nights with Seton coming out the victor in both.
Seton was able to get out to another large lead in the first quarter, jumping out to the 18-5 advantage.
Norwich started to get something going in to the second quarter after Saige Benedict completed the and-one three point play with a Sydney Coggins three to follow. The Purple Tornado scored 11 in the second as Abby Flynn added five points to go with the other two Norwich players but the Saints scored 15, taking a 33-16 margin into halftime.
Halea Eaton had a big third quarter for Norwich, controlling the offensive tempo with five straight points as she knocked down a 12-footer and followed it up with a steal and finished on the next possession.
However, it seemed like every time the Purple started a scoring run, Seton quickly ended it and went on a run of their own.
In the fourth, Norwich’s bench scored 11 of their last 13 points with five different players recording points. Norwich finished the game strong, putting up their largest quarter of points scored with 17.
Norwich is in action again tonight when they host Chenango Forks. Tip-off is slated for a 7:45 p.m. start.
