Storm loses a heartbreaker in the semis of MAC playoffs
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley’s Caleb Parker gave his team their first lead, 61-60 of the game with 1:20 remaining in the contest. With 10.7 left, Levi Rifanburg went to the line to shoot two free-throws.
Making first of two, his second free throw missed and fell into the hands of Delhi’s Christian Aloisio, who dribbled to half court and lobbed a pass to his teammate, Nate Craft.
Craft made the basket and got the fouled called, giving the Bulldogs a 63-62 lead. With just 5 seconds before the buzzer sounded, he missed the attempt at the line.
Rifanburg grabbed the board and Andrew Jackson heaved a shot from half court but it fell short, giving Delhi the one point win over the higher seeded UV on Tuesday night.
Unadilla Valley struggled to get the shots they wanted on the offensive end because of the Bulldogs’ tough defense, barely allowing any Storm player to get a good look.
After the first quarter tie at 18-18, Delhi held a lead no more than five points until Parker’s three-pointer in the final quarter.
Craft finished with 30 on the night, making 13 baskets from the floor, leading the Bulldogs in the one point win and the chance at the MAC conference title on Friday at the Binghamton University Events Center.
His teammate Aloisio added 12 in the win for Delhi.
Jackson hit a three in the first three quarters, averaging 7.6 points in the time span. He ended the night with 27 in the scoring column and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double while dishing out six assists. Jackson is 13 points away from his 1,000 point milestone of his high school career.
Rifanburg scored 15 in the tough loss as well.
The Storm are now 12-7 overall and will play Sidney at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. UV will also receive word about their sectional seed on later today.

BAINBRIDGE – Three players recorded double-doubles in Tuesday mini MAC tournament game between Bainbridge-Guilford and Oxford with the Blackhawks taking the 13 point win over the host Bobcats.
Oxford’s Jason Davis opened up the scoring for his team with a three pointer, his first of three in the stanza. C.J. Smith added six and Brad Beckwith chipped in four points in the 21 point first quarter for Oxford.
On the other side of the floor, Bainbridge-Guilford’s Tevor Halaquist poured in 11 in the first eight minutes, aiding in a 17 point first for the Bobcats.
After the high scoring first by both teams, Oxford’s Chris Martin and Xavier Cruz played some great shut-down defense on Halaquist, only allowing him on three and free-throws for the rest of the contest.
Davis didn’t wasn’t slowed down though. Over the next 24 minutes of play, Davis scored 20 points to lead his team to a 58-45 win.
Davis was one of the three finishing with a double-double, scoring a game-high 29 while grabbing 17 rebounds.
“Jason [Davis] was too much for us tonight,” said Bobcats’ head coach Brad Aldrich.
Smith pulled down 10 boards in the win, giving Oxford their second player with a double-double as he scored 14 for the night.
Halaquist was the Bobcats’ player with a double-double, recording 18 points and 12 rebounds. Scherhaufer chipped in 10 in the loss for the

BOONVILLE – The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders responded nicely following their loss on Friday with a 64-42 win on the road over league opponent Adirondack Monday night.
The Marauders jumped out to an early 18-6 lead after the first quarter behind eight points from Hunter Lane and six by Sylas Swingle.
In the second, the quarter was even at 16 for each team, allowing S-E to go in the locker room up by 15.
Sherburne-Earlville scored another 18 points in a quarter following the intermission, growing the lead to to 26.
Adirondack tried to make a run at the end, outscoring the Marauders 13-12 in the final stanza but it was too late.
Lane finished the game with 19 and Swingle added 12. All but one Marauder scored in the contest as the rest of the points were spread pretty evenly throughout the team.
On Friday, S-E traveled to Tully for a non-league contest. A tough first half of play for the Marauders led to a 38-19 advantage for the home team.
Tully held their lead after halftime, matching point for point in with Sherburne-Earlville in the third. In the final quarter, S-E outscored Tully but the large first half lead was too much for the Marauders to overcome.
Lane had a team-high 16 in Friday’s loss on the road. Teammates Dawson Lagoe added nine and Ryan Asma chipped in eight.
The Marauders are currently waiting for their Section III Class C seed, which will be received later tonight. Their first round game will be announced once in tomorrow’s paper, along with all other teams receiving their sectional game information.

JOHNSON CITY – The second quarter proved to be the difference during Monday’s game on the road for the Lady Purple Tornado, losing 58-50 to the Johnson City Wildcats.
The first quarter finished even at 16-16. The second stanza was a different story.
The Wildcats took a nine point lead following the end of the quarter, outscoring the Tornado 19-10.
In the third however, Norwich answered. Their 11-5 run in the quarter cut the JC lead from nine to three.
With the game at a slight margin, the Purple were attempting the comeback effort in the fourth. But the Wildcats, holding on to their lead from the second quarter, took the fourth 18-13.
Norwich was led by Triniti Myers with 15 while Halea Eaton added 11 and Saige Benedict chipped in with 10 in the loss.
The Lady Tornado host Binghamton on Thursday and will hear their sectional seed and first round game later tonight.
