Lady Tornado beats Binghamton; next stop: sectionals

NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado girls varsity basketball team hosted Binghamton on Thursday night, pulling out a 42-34 victory.
The Tornado girls were led by Abby Flynn, who was their top scorer with 12 points, and Saige Benedict, who added 10 points and was a perfect six-for-six from the charity line.
The Tornado girls jumped ahead 18 to 6 after a strong first quarter, but lost their flow in the second as they only scored 3 points leading up to halftime.
Norwich led 21 to 14 at the half, but Binghamton would bounce back in the third, closing in on the Purple Tornado to trail by only one point going into the final quarter.
Leading 27 to 26 going into the fourth, the Tornado girls fended off the Lady Patriots with a strong fourth quarter of their own to win 42 to 34.
The win brings Norwich to 11-8 on the season. Their next bout will be the a home game in the opening round of sectionals versus Oneonta on Saturday, February 24. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.
