No need for the third time charm; Norwich tops Oneonta once again

NORWICH – Oneonta led by three after one but trailed going into the locker room at halftime following a 15-10 second quarter by the Lady Purple Tornado. Norwich took the lead for good during the quarter, landing spot in the Section IV Class B semifinals.
During that second stanza run by the home team, Norwich received balance scoring from six different players.
Keeping the Yellowjackets in the contest was their senior Athena Basdekis. Basdekis scored seven of Oneonta’s 10 in the quarter.
The Purple added to their lead in the third quarter behind Halea Eaton’s six points as they again outscored the Yellowjackets 11-9.
In the final stanza, Basdekis single-handedly kept Oneonta in the game scoring nine of their 10 points. She finished with a double-double with 20 points and 10 steals.
Her teammate and Yellowjackets’ stand-out Ally Baker was shut down offensively, only scoring five in the contest. Baker did pull down 10 boards in the loss.
Norwich tacked on another 15 in the last eight minutes with two three-pointers coming late in the game from Triniti Myers.
Myers finished with a team-high 14 points as Abby Flynn added nine and Eaton tallied eight.
Norwich will now face Susquehanna Valley, the top seed of the Class B bracket, on Wednesday at the Sabers home gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
