NCSD trio on target at state tournament

UTICA – Three Norwich City School District students are aiming to bring home national archery titles in May.

Norwich High School sophomore Haley Shattuck and Norwich Middle School eighth-graders Shayne Webster and Drew Clarke were on the mark Friday during the New York National Archery in the Schools Program Tournament at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

Haley placed second in the high school division to earn a berth to the NASP U.S. Eastern National Tournament, which runs May 10-12 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Shayne took fourth in middle school competition, one spot ahead of teammate Drew. Both qualified for nationals while leading NMS to a second-place team finish.

Scores from the Eastern and Western national tournaments will be combined to determine the top qualifying archers for the annual scholarship shoot-off. The NASP season ends in June with the NASP World Championships, also in Louisville, Kentucky.
