20 year tradition brings churches together
NORWICH – A tradition of nearly 20 years happened again on Palm Sunday, as several churches joined together for a unified service of worship.
The churches involved with the March 25 event included: First Congregational, First Baptist Church, and the Broad Street United Methodist Church, with representatives Rev. Joe Connolly, Rev. Spiegel, and first time Norwich attendee Rev. Rachel Ann Morse appeared for their churches respectively.
The fourth church involved was the United Church of Christ.
According to Joe Connolly, Pastor at the United Church of Christ, First Congregational, this is where the Palm Sunday ceremony began as worshipers and clergymen appeared for the three part service of worship, and after everyone was prepared, the blessing of the palms commenced.
From there, Connolly said people traveled through West Park and eventually into the First Baptist Church were prayer was offered, and then the procession continued to the Broad Street United Methodist Church for the remainder of the service.
"Pamela Powers and Robin Debrita of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church were other members who also offered leadership," he added, "in the course of the service the combined choirs of the churches offered two anthems under the direction of Michael Moren and Mary Williams." – Zachary Meseck, Sun Staff Writer
