Afton Motorsports Park preparing track for Test and Tune Sessions

AFTON – Afton Motorsports Park promoter, Ron Ford, and his dedicated and hard working staff are now in race season mode as they get the three-eighths mile, blue clayed oval ready for racing action.

The first official “on-track” action will take place on Friday, April 13, with a Test and Tune Session starting at 7 p.m. with hot laps being given to any division that is in competition at the race track this year. The second Test and Tune Session will take place on Friday, April 20.

For these two sessions, pit admission is $20 and grandstand admission is free with a donation of a canned item for the local food bank.

With the winter weather lasting longer than the season, Ford said he is worried what the condition of the track will be by the first Test and Tune Session.

“The biggest problem we have right now is getting everything dried out,” said Ford. “We were able to plow the snow off the track two weeks ago. While my brother, Mike, was taking care of the plowing, I was pumping water buildup from the infield that we have to do from time to time. The hope is that we can get some good drying days with sun and wind as that will help us a lot in getting the grounds dried up. “

As far as the drivers, the season is looking to be a good one. Many drivers who have never called Afton Motorsports Park home have indicated that they will be at the Fairground oval every race night this year.

“The interest in the track and who has been calling me and telling me that they are racing with us is certainly good news,” said Ford. “Of course you have to wait to see who officially shows up on opening night and then we will see just how good our fields will be. Quite honestly, I’m excited as it is looking good in all divisions.”

This past week, The Trophy Guy located in Norwich has come on board to provide the beautiful trophies that are awarded to the feature winners at Afton Motorsports Park in 2018.

Any businesses that are interested in getting in on the action at Afton Motorsports Park can contact track promoter Ron Ford at (607) 624-3772. For as little as $300 you can get involved with Afton Motorsports Park, there are sponsorship packages to meet anyone’s budget.

Season passes for the pits and grandstands are now on sale by calling the track. VIP Suites are available for nightly rental too.

Opening night for Afton Motorsports Park will be Friday night, April 27. Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. with grandstand gates opening one half-hour later.

In competition for the event will be the ZMK Construction Modifieds, Chambers & O’Hara Open Sportsman, Butler Auto Sales Crate Sportsman, Rinker Insurance Agency Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds, and Four Cylinder Trucks.

Pit admission is $30, grandstand admission is $12, senior citizens ages 62 and up are $10, youth aged nine to 14 are $5 and eight and under are free.
