Oxford Rotary’s Easter egg hunt was ‘eggcellent’
OXFORD - The Oxford Rotary sponsored its 15th annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, and the free Easter egg event, which has continued to grow each year, took place indoors and in the safety of the Oxford Academy High School with eager youngsters who arrived with their parents in tow ready to go hunting for thousands of Easter eggs.
The young egg hunters were separated into two groups, the older children in the High School gym and the smaller preschool age and toddlers in the cafeteria. Once the egg hunts began, all the ‘quick little bunnies’ hopped to it and were done finding all the eggs in minutes!
There was still more fun to be had as all the colored eggs had to be opened to find out who got the special eggs with winning certificates to either Hoppie’s (six at $5 each), Roma’s (three at $20 each) or Joe and Vinnys (three at $20 each).
The certificate winners were Margaret Rovente, Raine Rovente, Shaniqua Hamilton, Karson Hamilton, Deneisha Lindsey, Makenna Knapp, Bodie Barrows, Blake Barrows, Eddie Ingraham, Gordon Smith, and Nickos Spyratos.
The winner of the small (12” wheel) bicycle was Grace Hodge and the big (18” wheel) bicycle was Elizabeth Ingraham.
The Rotary “bunny helpers” on the scene were President Sandy Phetteplace, Sandy Dain, Kathleen Anderson, Maria Landau, Evan Landau, and Trent Farrington. Everyone had a great time and there were plenty of candy filled eggs for everyone!
The Oxford Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who helped make this possible: the Oxford Academy School for their gracious use of the gym and cafeteria, and all the people of Oxford for their continued support of this event and the other activities sponsored by the Oxford Rotary Club.
The Oxford Rotary helps to support community programs such as the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), International Student Exchange program, the annual college scholarships and, for 55 years they have been co-sponsoring the Clyde Cole Wrestling Tournament.
Rotary also gives to worthwhile world causes such as the elimination of polio globally. They meet weekly on Thursdays, 5:30 p.m., at the Fort Hill American Legion Post 376.
