Norwich Police Department executes no-knock search warrant
NORWICH – After a two month long narcotics investigation, the Norwich Police Department and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office executed a no-knock search warrant at a residence of Mitchell Street, resulting in two arrests.
Patrick J. Gilbert, 50, of Norwich was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony, and first-degree criminal nuisance, a class E felony.
Bethann R. Freelove, 36, of Norwich was charged with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class D felony, and criminal nuisance, a class E felony.
Gilbert is accused of selling cocaine, Freelove is accused of selling prescription medications, and they're both accused of maintaining a place where people gathered for illegally selling drugs.
The search warrant was signed by Norwich City Court Judge Michael Genute. The Norwich Police and the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office worked closely with the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office during the investigation.
Both Gilbert and Freelove were arraigned in Norwich City Court Wednesday morning and both were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility for $30,000 bail each. Both are scheduled to appear in Norwich City Court at a later date.
“These arrests were the conclusion of an investigation that began when the Norwich Police Department was alerted to an unusual amount traffic in and out of the residence” said Chief Rodney Marsh. “We appreciate the continued cooperation from the community with their calls and emails to the department’s Tips line and Tips email," said Marsh.
